So… where have I been?!?  Knee-Hab, actually… but I’m getting ahead of myself…

As you know, back on Father’s Day, I ran the A2 Half Marathon, and it was good… we’ve covered that.  Tiring, but good.  After that, cartooning laziness and the necessities of life began to creep in, and I stopped making time for my comics, my diet and well… most things… busy, busy, busy…

Of course, I had the Chicago Half Marathon coming up, and I was still suffering a bit of knee pain, but not enough to stop me, so I hopped in the car the Friday before and went off to my buddy Wes’ place.  It was great to see him and his family again… it’s been too long.  In any case, Sunday came and WE RAN… well, Wes ran… I “ran”… I’m slow…

It was actually really cool running through the streets of Chicago without the vehicle traffic to deal with… huge number of runners… much, much fun.  At mile eight, I hit a pot hole and my lower leg below the sore knee went much more perpendicular to it’s usual facing direction than one would generally appreciate…  I continued to run, but yow! did I pay for it later…

Which brings us to kneehab… this is actually the first night that I’ve been able to sit at my desk long enough to draw a simple comic… the pain has been… intense… when trying to sit… or walk or run… don’t get me wrong, I’ve been functional but my evenings have been mostly spent with my leg up in the recliner trying to ease what I assume is tendon damage.

However, time heals all wounds, and while my knee is now sore from all this sitting, I’m not having pain walking, little pain when standing, and there’s a fairly reasonable chance that I will go a-runnin’ next week… just to work… nothing crazy… I’ve kinda got my eyes set on cycling for the rest of the season…

So diet… proceeding… new ticker below, but I feel like I’ve been trading muscle mass for fat mass… I need some non-knee-related aerobic exercise suggestions from you folk.  Chair aerobics don’t work, and swimming is problematic.  The pool at the complex is too small (and full of kids) for lap swimming, and the pool on campus is full of… well… able-bodied college kids swimming proper laps… I can sit there and wait an hour to get in 10 minutes worth of swimming… doesn’t work.

Also, the elliptical doesn’t really work.  While it is low/no-impact, it is actually tremendously hard on the knees… I don’t mind it when the knee is good, but at the moment, it’s just an exercise in pain… I can do without an exercise in pain…

Whine, whine, whine…

So… I appear to be back… I was actually shamed into coming back by my dear sister-in-law… I don’t mean that sarcastically as in my “dear” sister-in-law.  I have been fairly blessed as far as my extended family goes (though it did take me a little bit to get into the swing of things due to an aggressive case of the socially awkwards on my part)… in any case, I actually see Chris and Eric more than my own brothers… not their faults though as I’m the one who ran off to California… world to conquer and all… they have lives that are just as busy as mine… families of their own…

Regardless… Chris pulled me to the side to point out that I hadn’t posted since Father’s Day, and when I pointed out the kneehab, she pointed out that I didn’t have to draw… I could just… you know… use my words…

True…

…silly ol’ bear…

In any case, I have had time to think many thoughts, and I’ll try and catch you up over the next few days… for now… knee… recliner… must away…
