So those of you who know me may be shocked and amazed to learn that I went to the doctor yesterday… willingly even.

Well… mostly willingly.  I’ve been suffering from a shoulder injury (feels like someone is trying to rip my left arm off) for a few weeks now and suspected rotator cuff damage, so I figured I’d better have it checked out.  I don’t have the best of luck with doctors though as they can never see past the weight, and was approaching the appointment with a bit of trepidation.  In fact, I had even prepped a rough for today’s comic before heading out…

This does tend to be my usual experience at the doctor’s office.  I swear I could walk in with an axe planted squarely between my shoulder blades and my trousers on fire, and they would take one look and say “You should lose some weight”…

So that’s what I was prepared for, but they surprised me.  They complimented me on the weight loss and focused on my shoulder.  Turns out it’s a rotator cuff issue, and they prescribed some rehab exercises for it.    They also focused on my testicles because that is what doctor’s do during a check-up… and by they, I do mean plural because he had his med student in tow, so I had all kinds of hands in places I prefer to keep private.  Oh Frabjous Joy!  Caloo Calay!

The exciting part of the visit, however, was the blood pressure reading.  I have gone from a pre-hypertensive 135 over 80-some-such-odd to a 114 over 70 which is right smack dab in the middle of the desirable range.  The doctor was thrilled, and yeah… I was as well.

As per the food thing, I’ve been to the show enough to know that they were going to want to do blood tests (cholesterol, sugar and liver enzymes as it turns out), so to save myself a trip back to the office, I went ahead and fasted prior to going in.

Unfortunately, the appointment was at 2:30, and the doctor was running late.  Yay, for properly forecasting the need for a fasting blood test, but oh ye gods was I hungry when I left.  I had been planning on baking up some frozen chicken breasts stuffed with broccoli upon my return home, but at 45 minutes cook time, hells to the no!  Instead I reached for a leftover frozen pork chop which was eminently more microwaveable.  Best. Pork Chop. Ever.

So, as long as we’re talking food, let’s run the numbers…

Food Intake:

  • Breakfast – water
  • Lunch – water
  • Afternoon snack – porkchop and banana – 500 calories
  • Dinner – steak, potato, roll and salad – 1200 calories

1700 calories total.  Dinner was admittedly high, but… it was that kind of day.  I was ready to leap into the ribs and wings section of the menu with a nacho or mozzarella-based appetizer and buckets and buckets of Coke, but opted for the above with water (no freakin’ lemon, please!) instead.  I’m calling it a win.

I had intended to hit the ddr pad as well, but spent my free time moving furniture and shampooing carpets instead.  I’m not sure if that counts, but it was tiring!
